Drum Medicine

Maria Theresa in reverance to the Cedar for her drum hoop

I recently traveled to Mexico to sit, journey and remember my true potential.  In the months preceding, fear had taken me and thrown me into submission….a place where I cried out for help to never return.  While in Tequisquiaspan, Traditional Plant Medicine carrier,  Maria Theresa Venezuela, became my guide and guardian as I embarked on a journey to clear a deep seeded fear that has plagued me and others from fully becoming our authentic selves and living our birth right as passed down through our lineage.  Ceremonies of Sweat Lodge and Plant Medicine gave way to profound life changing events which occurred within me  and, there is no mistake, within  all of humanity as well.  For I believe, we are each a reflection of our humanity and all of life.

Rosario Sarria and her new birth

“The Drum beat begins and a connection to the beat of Mamma, to  Humanity and, to Pappa create a sound wave vortex that leads us to the sound between the beats and other realms.  Webs are woven and then the web begins to expand into the fifth dimension as it forms into a bridge, a tunneling spiral igniting a momentum to touch the Celestials and bore deep into the Earth at the same time.  The ground shivers and shakes as bolts of lightning shoot up out of the Earth acknowledging the light beam of love we have sent her.  Colors and swirls of light spin in and around our heads as the Spiraling Infinity soars to the Heavens and down into the Earth as our hearts remain to be the point of conception.”

“The time is now  to step into our fullest potential of power in this lifetime.

Come!!! Be  in Ceremony (celebration) of being all that you can be.  Drum Medicine!!

Do not be fooled.  This BIG THING can look like anything even if it’s as simple as re-learning how to walk on the Earth with a confident stride.  Embrace with Gratitude to be alive.

XI Strength

What a glorious life I lead.

(“I feel scared”)

Waking to what seems to perpetual sunny days.

(“I don’t want to get out of bed”)

Enjoying the freedom the kitties have in this expansive desert .

(“Next life time, I’m going to be a cat”)

Barefoot on the land.

(**sigh**)

Sharing the love of community…..building with the Earth….shaping our Dreams into form.

(“Sometimes I just need my own time and space”)

Talking circle before we begin our day ignites transparency to hold me accountable.

(“Overwhelm, fear…emotional purging”)

Stone of Gratitude passed around the circle.

(“Thank you, thank you, thank you!”)

Tears, laughter.

(“The beauty of Talking Circle”)

Where are my shoes?

(“funny crew”)

Where is my hat?

(“funny, funny crew!”)

I draw a card from the MotherPeace deck:  XI Strength

(“Lady of the Beast, she who tames through sheer spritual force.”)

Her Water Broke

February 7, 2012

I find it quite uncanny that the coulds seem to roll in when I soak a full elk or deer hides in water in preparation for making drums.   The process begins with i
immersing an elk or deer hide into a large barrel of water.  Then the hard, dry hide will begin to hydrate into a soft, pliable skin.

Blessing the Hides

The more I reflected back on the last decade in honoring this sacred craft that works with such a powerful animal, it either rains during the time of preparation or during the time of actual crafting the drums.  The last spurt of drum making in October, Coyote howled in the distance as the hides began to surrender to the water and the following day the Thunder Beings made themselves present while I was cutting hides at a location called Rabbit Run.  Quite an appropriate name during an oncoming Thunder storm!!
I’ve been asked if I get creep out by handling the wet skin of an animal after it has soaked up the water and begins to smell of primal life.  Funny….I hadn’t thought about it until the question was posed to me and upon reflection I get a bit of a charge of life reborn and my creativity begins to awaken once again.
So, as I craft and prepare for drum making in this timing of 2012, in the tradition of the Quero Apache, the first full moon of the year was Black Water Dragon  greeting us into a New Reality.  I will be soaking hides tonight after I complete this writing and there are clouds in the distant mountains.
“We prepare for the births that will carry our heartfire into the depths of true nature.  Water flows brings the activation.”
***I  invite you to visit the Indian Store in Vista on Feburary 18, 2012 from 12pm to 5pmish where I will be preparing hides, lace and hoops.***

In Gratitude and Love,

Lisa

The Journey~April 2011

April 2011 Newsletter

Greetings!

At Bonita Domes we are practicing living a life of sustainability within community.
We are living and working together using the two trailers for our kitchen and community dining. An outdoor hot shower is the best part at the end of the day besides looking back at the magnificent sculptures we co-created. Our compost bin is going strong and eventually WWOOFERs will be invited to grow our garden.

The plans were approved by the county and our crew of 7, including me, are now camping on site, in cars, trailers and, of course, domes. In the last three weeks we completed two Sleep Pods and some retaining walls as we ramp up the flow and rhythm to building the Triple Dome home, the main structure. We are currently preparing to lay the first bag next week.

Sacred geometry are our guides as the arches, circles and friction come to life through the four elements, earth, wind, fire and water AND our desire and passion to meet our calling of being Earth Builders.

Divine orchestration has brought to our crew an inspired drum maker and last weekend was spent making mini ashikos and shamanic drums.

We are great-full to our experience of a simple life here in the desert of Joshua Tree….as we awake every morning like big kids ready to play in a giant sandbox. We are grateful to all the volunteers, crew members and visitors for continued support and inspiration.

If you would like to have more information, participate or visit the Bonita Domes Project, please email your inquiry to bonitadomes@att.net.

Confident in

Twins are Born

July 7, 2010

During a week-long workshop at Cal Earth,  growth and insight emerged through pangs of emotional movements.  My partner and I found ourselves in the midst of tension as we presented our points of view about how we were communicating.  Ok….REALLY…..We were arguing.  Defensive/Offensive conversations flew around our field just like the clothes in the dryer at the laundromat.   Yes, we WERE actually at the laundromat.

Eventually we found peace and resolution and returned to the workshop to begin a project with the group.  My partner went ahead as I lagged for some unknown reason.  I took the moments of solitude to meditate briefly to be awaken by a call from my medicine bag.  Corn Meal…”Take the corn meal!”  I checked my bag and  it was wet. Upon further investigation, my small bottle of collected and blessed Lightening Water had let loose in my bag and saturated most of its contents.

I pondered briefly of the mornings events with my partner, set out the contents of my bag to dry and returned to the group with corn meal in my pocket.   The group had begun to build a wall with Earth and I gave offering to dig.

Then just a few moments after my arrival back to the group a pvc line for water burst through  Mama Earth just like the water breaks in a swollen womb before a birth.

A week later, these twins were born.

Quiet Before the Storm

June 17, 2010

Is it the quiet
before the storm?
That has me in
the bliss of calm.
I awake to
the excitement of the day
unlike recent mornings
where getting out of bed
was akin to
swimming through sludge.

Is it the quiet
before the storm?
That beckons me to
question what is
different today.
I drink my first
glass of water
with prayers to gratitude
to Mama, to Papa
for my life here and now.

It is the quiet
before the storm!
I’ll take it
embrace it
and dance with it!
Engulfed in the rapture
of happiness and harmony
not to question
its origin.

It is the quiet
before the storm,
and we will dance
with the winds of change,
and with the rains of blessings,
to the beats and rhythms
of the uninhibited joy
and curiousity of child.
